About this place
Set on the 2th floor of a building in Shijo-Omiya, Melpo centers its food menu around an extensive lineup of smoked bar snacks. Diners unsure where to begin can lean on the chef's selection of 4 smoked bites, an assorted tasting plate well suited to grazing over a drink. The à la carte roster ranges from familiar staples like smoked cheese, eggs, and red cocktail sausages to homemade chicken jerky, giant imitation crab sticks, and iburigakko (smoked pickled daikon) paired with cream cheese.
The backbar offers an equally versatile selection. Scotch enthusiasts will find pours from Ballantine's, Bowmore, Laphroaig, and The Macallan, alongside American bourbons and Kyoto's own KI NO BI craft gin. Beyond whisky and neat spirits, the bar also covers beer, wine, and an eclectic roster of sour cocktails flavored with hiyashiame ginger malt, pickled sushi ginger, and tart Otoko Ume plum.
The interior offers a calm, casual setting complete with table service, making it an easy spot to unwind without pretense. Operating from 20:00 until 4:00 the following morning every day except Monday, it serves as a reliable retreat for a late-night drink around Shijo-Omiya.
